3D design process overview

3D design sits at the very core of how I bring race team projects to life, from concept through to finished output.

Working to true real-world scale is central to my process, each livery and scene is built with production in mind, so the final designs can be scaled up without ever losing sharpness or quality.

Every piece of artwork is built from the ground up using industry-standard software and hardware, no Artificial Intelligence involved at any stage. That means the IP stays exactly where it belongs: with me, or with the teams I work alongside.

The images & information below show this process in action, from the flat 2D design through to the  high-quality 3D renders designed to enhance your presentations and help win over sponsors and team partners.

Stage 1 - The base designs I create using Adobe Illustrator working with scaled CAD models of the vehicles, this is the 'master file'. When the final designs have been signed off, this file is then used to create all the production artwork.

Working through the base design in a 2D format ensures all logos / brands are in the correct positions and sizes.

Stage 2 of the process is to transfer the design onto the 'UV Map' of the vehicle or model in question, I use the master file to create the 3D mapped version. If there are changes made on the 3D mapped artwork, the master file is updated to reflect this.

Using both the UV map and the 2D file in conjunction with each other to ensure the render output is correct.

Stage 3 is where everything comes together, this is where the real fun starts. With artwork mapped across every model, it's time to bring the renders to life.

From here, the possibilities are genuinely endless. These renders can feed straight into targeted pitch decks, social media content, posters, merchandise - you name it.

That flexibility means you're never limited to a single static image; you can present multiple angles, or even full animated sequences, to potential sponsors. And because the renders are built to real-world scale from the start, what you show is exactly what gets produced, no surprises between pitch and reality.

What happens next? . . .

This is where two decades in the motorsport industry really pay off. Over more than 20 years I've built a wide network of trusted business connections, the kind of relationships that turn a render on screen into something real, sitting in your paddock or on your car.

Whatever the output, there's a route to make it happen: simple print items like posters and signing cards, through to larger-scale builds such as pit lane lighting gantries and paddock structures. And of course, the race liveries themselves -  from initial production right through to final installation on the car.

Whether it's a single printed asset or a full track-side presence, the connections are already in place to take it from concept to reality.
